What does Rita’s use to sweeten the Sugar-Free Italian Ice flavors?
We sweeten our Sugar-Free flavors with a combination of sugar alcohols and sugar substitutes. In addition to sorbitol (a sugar alcohol), we also use the sweeteners Sucralose, also known as Splenda®, and Acesulfame-Potassium, also known as Ace-K.
Why are there carbohydrates in the Sugar-Free Italian Ice?
The majority of the carbohydrates in these flavors come from ingredients such as sugar alcohols and maltodextrin, which is derived from corn. Sugar alcohol and maltodextrin contribute calories and carbohydrates, but no sugar. These ingredients are important in maintaining the consistency and stability of our products during freezing.
Can I eat Sugar-Free Italian Ice if I am a diabetic?
While Rita’s does offer a Sugar-Free Italian Ice, this product is not free of carbohydrates. Sugar-Free Italian Ice contains sugar substitutes as well as carbohydrates derived from sugar alcohols and maltodextrin. We encourage all diabetics to consider the carbohydrate content of our Sugar-Free Italian Ice before consuming it. All nutrition information for Sugar-Free Italian Ice can be found on our home page by clicking the Flavors and Nutritional Information under the Sugar-Free Italian Ice section.
Do Rita’s Italian Ice flavors or Custards contain any fiber?
